Oct 03, Alex rated it it was amazing Shelves: It was a powerful sermon aimed at the “dominionist” movement in fundamental Christianity, led by people like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. The urgency of some of Hedges’ arguments may have lost some of their relevancy because of the countervailing politics of the so-called “left” during the Obama administration. I held off on reviewing this book. God help us all if these loons ever get their way. Twenty-five years ago, when Pat Robertson and other hedgse and televangelists first spoke of the United States becoming a Christian nation that would build a global Christian empire, it was hard to take such hyperbolic rhetoric seriously.

I thought this book, while fawcists perfect, contained a lot of heeges and am glad,to see it out in the open.
When evil is always external, then moral purification always entails the eradication of others. There is little in here that I was not aware of, as far as t This is a very alarming portrait of some of the darkest forces at work in America, or anywhere for that matter. Hedges does point this out at hedegs once in the book, but it is too easy for the uninitiated to miss that every evangelical is NOT a dominionist.
I’ll no longer be quiet to be polite when crazy folks spew hate and lies. It doesn’t bare thinking about what would happen if someone with the ‘likeability’ of Obama and genuine ideological will, replaced Trump in time.

He does not make easy targets of the masses of downtrodden ehdges who make up the movement, often giving them humane descriptions and sympathy for their situation. He does a stellar job of describing the inner workings of the loonies.

Onward to the apocalypse
One of those inescapable truths is that we are a nation of fascistss people of all walks of life. I’m “one of Satan’s minions”. A war on truth is going on. They are corrupting the Bible in their efforts to do so. We are a nation built on a variety of creeds, races, ages, cultures, etc.
