Great singsong quality and narrative progression. Gorey has been creating grey John Ciardi’s books.
I’m not entirley sure what the moral of this story is but I think it’s that if you’re a kid who behaves, eats all your dinner and say your prayers before bedtime a hideous monster will arrive at your front door and eat you.

What is a Wuggly Ump? Although he would frequently state that his formal art training was “negligible”, Gorey studied art for one semester at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago ineventually becoming a professional illustrator. From tohe lived in New York City and worked for the Art Department of Doubleday Anchor, illustrating book covers and in some cases adding illustrations to the text.

This book is printed in three colors like The Bug Bookbut the colors were added at the printing stage and not on the original artwork. This story cracked me up. The wuggly ump is unexpectedly upbeat for such a bizarre story. The Wuggly Ump Hardcover Short tale, told in rhyming couplets, and with colour illustrations, and aimed at kids as well as adults.
