Grass is a thought-provoking novel, especially if you enjoy reading about human colonisation of alien planets and the imposition of old world ideology on a new world society. They have a three-stage metamorphosis. There is an important religious aspect to this story too, exploring some similar themes that James Teppet explored in A Case of Conscience.

This is probably one of the most unusual first contact stories that I have ever read.
