I was also confused I absolutely loved the full cast akrborn recording, the voices are spot on. But it also ignores the all the things that made GB and the US the actual dominate forces in our real history, which is rather strange for a book which is otherwise so willing to grapple with issues of classism, sexism, corporate greed, and the power of science over fanaticism. And what does that really teach kids? Would you like us to take another look at this review?
Overall, I thought this was a spectacularly entertaining and touching story—the Victorian-y setting coupled with more “modern” twists airbonr the flying airships, made for a fun contrast and the mystery of the flying cats is delectable! In recent YA fiction that dynamic has been reversed, with main female characters and very secondary male characters.
I’d only hesitate with very young children because of the deaths, and the pirates may be scary for them. Unlike a lot of alternate history stories, Airborn doesn’t bother with giving much world development. See all 6 questions about Airborn….

Between their mutual interests, frustrations with their personal situations, and an impossible crush, Matt finds himself getting drawn repeatedly into Kate’s crazy adventures oppe, an uneasy for Matt mix of henchman 1, useful idiot, and possible love interest even though they threaten to undermine his position aboard the Aurora, which he sees as his aibrorn.
Add in class issues and an adventurous young lady with scientific aspirations and it more than fills pages. The descriptions of the deaths are short and not very detailed, but those with active oppsl could find themselves just a kenndth grossed out at times.

I mean, they took up almost half of the book, but to me it still fell very flat and was way pointless and a little to weird. There’s also a bit of a mystery. In a swashbuckling adventure reminiscent of Jules Verne and Robert Louis Stevenson, Kenneth Oppel, author of the best-selling Silverwing trilogy, creates an imagined world in which the air is populated by transcontinental voyagers, pirates, and beings never before dreamed of by the humans who sail the skies.
The passengers are saved when Matt steers the Aurora back on course. In my opinion these books somewhat followed the same plot each time by introducing a villain than a rival that Matt tries to best because for some reason he always thinks that kate likes more than him.
They’re cool with that? Said it is one of his favorite books to come round in awhile.

I started out writing sci-fi epics my Star Airboen phase then went on to swords I was born in in Port Alberni, a mill town on Vancouver Island, British Columbia but spent the bulk of my childhood in Victoria, B. The fantasy elements are handled well and I think the interpersonal struggles of the main characters are not overly done.

Still, I think a case could be made for this as a sort of crossover for a boy who reads mainly nonfiction and is interested in nautical subjects, aviation, or real life pirates. If so, they’re taking revenge on readers who weren’t even born when the offending literature was written.
While I agree some parts could have been made to sound more authentic in terms of setting and characters the book overall was very fulfilling. I’m tired of “perfect female characters”!
